A UNEF Força de Paz entre outros competiu com Mikhail Gorbatsjov, Ronald Reagan,
Gro Harlem Brundtland, Nelson Mandela, Coração Aquino, Papa João Paulo II, O
Serviço Mundial de saúde e a associação de futebol Internacional FIFA.
Para receber o Nobel da Paz de 1988 os integrantes da UNEF deveriam apresentar
mapas dos locais, medalhas, certificados e outros que comprovassem o cumprimento
da missão de Paz.
Porém nada foi processado no princípio. Só quando a associação de veteranos da
Noruega levou o assunto nas próprias mãos, fazendo os desenhos necessários e
amostras de medalhas e outros dados conforme solicitado.
O Comitê de Medalha do ministério da Defesa norueguesa junto com A Associação
norueguesa do Prêmio Nobel examinou a medalha. Só em 1995, estava o jogo de
medalhas completo para aprovação.
A permissão para a fabricação do material foi determinada pelo Instituto do
Nobel da Noruega que reproduziu uma impressão do Diploma do Nobel original - que
acompanha a medalha. O original pode ser visto na sede da ONU em Nova Iorque.
A associação veterana - Bergen e Hordaland e a Associação de veteranos da ONU -
Noruega - teve sucesso obtendo aprovação do Ministério da Defesa Norueguês para
produzir um Certificado especial/pesoal a ser dado com a medalha. O Ministro
norueguês da Defesa - Jørgen Kosmo, assinou o certificado.
A outorga é uma medalha certificada na Noruega, e colocada entre as mais
importantes na Noruega. Uma extrema e alta honra para muito veteranos, homens e
mulheres que até o dia 10 de dezembro de 1988 cumpriu sua missão de levar a paz
da ONU ao redor do mundo.
O Comitê de Medalha do ministério da Defesa norueguesa, em novembro de 1996
aprovou a medalha como uma medalha Norueguesa/Internacional oficial - embora
possa ser usada com o uniforme norueguês.
Com esta aprovação se tem agora os meios para que os veteranos da ONU recebam o
PRÊMIO INTERNACIONAL DA PAZ através da MEDALHA DE 1988, única prova de que foram
agraciados com o PRÊMIO NOBEL DA PAZ DE 1988.
A concessão do Prêmio Nobel da Paz de 1988 através da Medalha de 1988 - é um
exemplo muito bom que resultados podem ser obtidos através de associações de
veteranos com verdadeiros sentimentos da sua importância, quando tomam a
iniciativa de fazê-lo!

The history behind the medal:

Among the 97 candidates to the Nobel Peace Prize 1988 many persons were very
much known through the press and media.
-
The United Nations Peace Keeping Forces were among others in competition with
Mikhail Gorbatsjov and Ronald Reagan, Gro Harlem Brundtland, Nelson Mandela,
Carazon Aquine, Pope Johannes Paul II, The World Helthorganisation and the
International football association FIFA.
In connection with the giving of The Nobel Peace Prize 1988, the hopes of the
involved - civilian and military personnel, spread over the action areas of the
world were raised. Hopes of a recognized symbol - medal or certificate - for the
duties carried out.
However nothing was processed at first. It was only when a veteran association
in Norway took the matter into their own hands, did the necessary drawings and
samples of medal etc. be produced.
The Medal Committee of the Norwegian Defence Ministery together with The
Norwegian Nobel Prize Association examined the medal and in 1995, was a finished
set of medals completed for approval.
Permission was given by The Nobel Institute of Norway to reproduce a print of
the original Nobel Diploma - which is given with the medal.
The original can be found in the UN building in New York.
The veteran association - Bergen and Hordaland UN-Veteran Association, Norway -
succeeded in getting approval from the Norwegian Ministry of Defence to produce
a special/personal Certificate to be given with the medal.

The medal is a certified medal in Norway, and the highest placed UN medal in
Norway.
An extremely highly regarded and honoured possession for the many veterans, men
and women, who until 10th December 1988 have taken part in UN duties throughout
the world.
The above committees - in November 1996 - approved the medal as an official
Norwegian/International medal - although to be worn with the Norwegian uniform.
The international approval now means that other UN Veterans now can received -
THE INTERNA- TIONAL PEACE PRIZE MEDAL 1988 - unique proof that one has received
the NOBEL PEACE PRIZE 1988.
The above accept of - The International Peace Prize Medal 1988 - is a good
example that results can be made by veterans with true feelings, when they take
the initiative.
